LYONS: CHICKEN ADVOCATE NOT GUILTY OF BURGLARY
A novice filmmaker charged with burglary and other crimes after he crept onto a commercial egg farm to document conditions was acquitted yesterday of all charges but criminal trespass. The filmmaker, Adam C. Durand, 26, of Rochester, is part of a group waging a public campaign against a supermarket chain, Wegmans, and its practice of confining hens to cages at its farm in Wolcott. Mr. Durand's lawyers showed jurors in Wayne County Court pictures of live hens caged with dead ones, mice wandering over the egg conveyor, and a hen submerged to the neck in manure. A spokeswoman for Wegmans said the film did not represent conditions on the farm. MICHELLE YORK (NYT)
